Seen this morning in Ottawa. Since winter 2024-2025 is an expected irruption winter for the great gray owl, time to start scouting the usual hotspots for this winter species. The irruption cycle happens every 4 years and occasionally 5 which coincides with the cyclical crash of the small mammal population in the boreal forest. This is a female based on its larger size.
